Arts Gymnasium

Arts Gymnasium

Join us at the Belgrade for Arts Gymnasium, our fun weekly sessions for over 50s, promoting positive well-being through imagination and movement.

These sessions are an opportunity to share stories, stay active and start new friendships by participating in a variety of theatre activities. No previous drama experience is necessary to take part.

Arts Gymnasium is part of the Belgrade Theatre’s Click Spring programme, and uses theatre and arts activities to contribute to the quality of life and positive well-being of people living in Coventry. These sessions are exclusively for people aged 50 and over, and run once a week during school term time at the Belgrade Theatre.

There are 3 strands to the Arts Gymnasium Programme:

  • Elders Company – Formed in Autumn in 2018, the Elder’s Company is a select group of participants that are currently engaged in devising a piece of theatre with an aim of performing it across Coventry, including at our over 50’s symposium event in May 2019. The group meets once a week working with a trained facilitator.
Stay tuned for more details about this event.
  • Reaching Out is a drama group that welcomes those who are isolated and from the least arts-engaged communities within the city, promoting positive well-being and connectivity within Coventry. The weekly sessions build confidence through providing a space for play, and exploring experiences from different backgrounds through drama activities and storytelling.
  • Living Well is a drama group that is tailored to meet the needs of people living with memory impairments and/or early stage dementia. These sessions will encourage participants to take part in individual and group activities, promoting the use of imagination and movement. .
