Irene and Tony- Arts Gymnasium

Arts Gymnasium uses theatre and arts activities to contribute to the quality of life and positive well-being of the 50+ community in and around Coventry. Taking part in theatre helps them to explore their own identities, build confidence, investigate the experiences of others and encourages an understanding and appreciation of difference. Our Arts Gymnasium programme has three different strands; Shine On, Living Well and Reaching Out which are tailored to meet individual needs.

Irene and Tony have been attending weekly Living Well sessions for a year at the Belgrade. Living Well is a drama group that is designed to meet the needs of people living with memory impairments and/or early stage dementia.

Here is what Irene has to say about her experience of Living Well:

“Arts Gymnasium has opened up my life, Tony has Alzheimer’s and we come to Living Well every Friday. We leave each session feeling great about ourselves, Tony feels so happy due to the friendships he has made since starting. Being a carer the sessions give me a release and for 2 hours you forget everything; Natalie, Alice and John are absolute gems. The Belgrade has a different meaning for us now, it is a great part of our lives and I hope it continues. We have come to rely on Arts Gymnasium for a positive outlook, we walk away smiling every Friday.”
