John- Apprenticeships

Launched in 2011, the Belgrade’s award-winning creative apprenticeship scheme was recognised in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list published in The Guardian and was awarded Creative Apprentice Employer of the Year by the National Skills Academy in March 2012.

Apprenticeships at the Belgrade Theatre offer a unique opportunity to gain a wide range of transferrable skills which can be used in later employment, as well as a greater understanding of the theatre industry.

John is currently completing a Community Arts Apprenticeship in association with Creative Alliance. Recently achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Acting from BOA, John has embraced life in the Community and Education department assisting with the facilitation of various community arts activities both at the theatre and in venues across the city. The Belgrade’s work with young people and local communities is an integral part of the theatre’s artistic programme, we seek to give a voice to the diverse communities of Coventry through the use of theatre and other art forms.

John says:

“I have really grown as an individual, my apprenticeship has given me many new life skills I wouldn’t have got without working here. Working alongside a variety of professionals in the theatre industry was a good eye opener. The staff at the Belgrade are all lovely and they put numerous hours of work into their projects and community sessions. Working here has made me prouder to be a Coventrain.”
