Piff the Magic Dragon

Comedy magician Piff the Magic Dragon is coming to the Belgrade

Posted on 3 October 2011

Comedy magician, YouTube hit and star of Saturday night TV, Piff the Magic Dragon, will appear in An Evening of Burlesque on the Main Stage on Tues 8 Nov.

Previously best known for being the world’s grumpiest dragon, Piff – played by comedy magician Jon van der Put – has become an overnight sensation after appearing on Penn and Teller’s prime time television show Fool Us. His appearance on the show has now gone viral with over 1 million hits on YouTube (watch it here).

Jon says Piff is his reaction to spending years earning a crust as a close-up magician at private functions. “Bad magic is easy to do,” he says, “I wanted to do something more with it than find the four of diamonds. Magicians like David Blaine have given magic a new lease of life. He stripped away the shiny suits and fluffy doves and made it about the effect and the spectator. That was clever.”

Michael Taylor, producer of An Evening of Burlesque added: “Imagine Jack Dee in a dragon suit performing jaw-dropping magic tricks and you’re on the right track. Traditionally, burlesque has been a variety show; and we’re bringing this fascinating art form back to life in its original format, adding a modern day twist. An Evening of Burlesque features music and song, comedy and magic, hula dancing and even a talented classical pianist.”

This year Piff was crowned the Magic Circle’s Close-up Magician of the Year, has appeared in London’s West End as part of La Soiree, completed a sell-out tour of Australia and returned to this year’s Edinburgh Festival as a Fringe favourite with his new show Last of the Magic Dragons. All of this is combined with a starring role in An Evening of Burlesque which will be at the Belgrade on tues 8 Nov.
