The Father

Join the director and writer for a FREE workshop about The Father

Posted on 30 March 2012

To celebrate the opening of our brand new production of The Father, director Joe Harmston and writer Laurie Slade are inviting you to join them in a complimentary pre-show workshop and post-show discussion (offered with the purchase of a ticket to the 7:45pm performance) on Monday 2 April.

Starring award-winning RSC actors Katy Stephens as Laura and Joe Dixon as the Captain, The Father sees a family in crisis as husband and wife battle over the control of their daughter’s future. Laura will sacrifice anything to get what she believes is right for her daughter. When she suggests to her husband that he may not be the child’s father at all, she sets in motion a chain of events that will have catastrophic consequences.

The pre-show workshop will run from 5:30pm and finish at 6:45pm and will focus on Bertha, the daughter, and her relationship with her battling parents. Laurie Slade and Joe Harmston will guide you through the themes of the play and facilitate a practical workshop around their production.

The play begins at 7:45pm and will last approximately 1hr 40mins (without an interval). This will be followed by a post-show discussion with Joe Harmston, Laurie Slade and some of the cast, which will provide an opportunity for the audience to discuss their concluding thoughts on the play. This will last approximately 30mins.

To book tickets please telephone one of our friendly Box Office staff on 024 7655 3055 or visit The Father page here on our website. The group for the pre-show workshop will meet at the theatre Box Office at 5:30pm. For more information please contact Sam Allison, Education Officer on 024 7684 6708, or email
