Inside the Directors' Club Annual Party

Posted on 4 October 2011

More than 70 members of the local business community descended on the theatre for the Directors’ Club’s annual party, which was followed by a performance of Alan Ayckbourn’s Season’s Greetings.

Held on the Burbidge Gallery, the annual party brought together 15 members of the Belgrade Theatre’s Directors’ Club and their guests for a pre-show buffet and wine reception. Geoff Brooke-Taylor of Alsters Kelley solicitors and chairman of the theatre’s Business Development Committee, made a short speech in which he congratulated the Directors’ Club on reaching its fourth anniversary and welcomed the newest members to the theatre.

He said “It was great to see the Directors’ Club members come together to celebrate another year at the Belgrade and the continuing growth of the scheme. The group’s members all appreciate that in these harsh economic times it makes good business sense to enjoy the benefits of membership and involvement with one of the country’s leading provincial theatres.

“The Directors’ Club was designed to bring real benefits to businesses so that they can use the facilities and opportunities the theatre has to offer to their advantage. Clearly the package is beneficial – there are certainly not that many membership organisations growing in the current climate.”

After the party guests were invited to watch the performance of Alan Ayckbourn’s festive comedy Season’s Greetings, which was playing in the Main House and starred EastEnders actors Ricky Groves and Glynis Barber, who was also in Dempsey and Makepeace and Christopher Timothy who is best known for his role as James Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small.

Established in September 2007, the Belgrade’s Directors’ Club has grown rapidly over the last four years and the membership scheme now includes a diverse range of local businesses such as the UK arm of premium bathroom and kitchen manufacturers, Dornbracht, Hotdog Presentations, DeMarco Hunter Solicitors and Jaguar Land Rover.

The Directors’ Club aims to strengthen the relationship between the theatre and the local and regional business communities. Amongst other things members can take advantage of regular networking opportunities and social evenings with other members and businesses across the region. Directors’ Club members can also use their membership to entertain clients, target new markets, incentivise staff and demonstrate their commitment to the local community.
