Date set for this year's panto chorus auditions

Posted on 16 July 2012

This year’s pantomime is Sleeping Beauty and once again we’re giving local children the chance to attend open auditions on Saturday 15 September which could see them land a role in the panto chorus.

The auditions, which are for children aged 8-16 only, will be held at the theatre and will start promptly at 10am. Parents are asked to drop their children at the Stage Door opposite the Town Wall Tavern no later than 9.45am. They will be met by licensed chaperones.

On arrival, children are given a number to identify them and they are then sorted into groups based on age and height. The choreographer will take each group in turn and teach them a short routine which will be presented to the panto director. If a child makes it through the first round s/he will be asked to stay for a further round, and so it goes on until the end of the day when we end up with three teams of eight.

We suggest that children wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for them to move and dance in, and that they bring a soft drink with them (not fizzy).

Please keep in contact with your child(ren) throughout the day as they will be able to advise you when to pick them up; if they are chosen to go forward to the next round, they may be required to stay for most of the day.

We will be stopping for a lunch hour, the time of which will be decided on the day. Please pick your child up for lunch if they are still with us. Please note that we do not allow food to be brought into the theatre because we have our own café bar which has a selection of light meals on offer all day.

The parents of those children chosen to be in the chorus will be asked to attend a meeting at the theatre on Monday 17 September at 6pm for information about licensing and panto guidelines. It is essential that parents attend this meeting so that the business side of their child’s participation can be clearly explained.

Please take a few minutes to read the documents at the top right hand side of this page called ‘Panto Auditions – Code of Conduct’ and ‘Panto Auditions – Info for Parents’ which outline the extent of the commitment needed from our pantomime chorus.
