Consider Yourself an Oliver? Legendary Musical Seeks Young Stars

Posted on 3 October 2014

Lionel Bart’s musical masterpiece “Oliver!” is coming to the Belgrade stage next May and the search is on for children to take part in this legendary show.

Five time NODA award winning ‘Coventry Musical Theatre Society’ (CMTS) are going to be staging the show at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry’ from 21st- 23rd May 2015.

The society, which has been running for over 100 years has staged many musicals in the city but this is the first time they have ever staged “Oliver!”. Chairman Andy Watts explains:

“After the success of our recent production of “Crazy for You”, we decided it would be great to stage a show which could involve and appeal to families across the city. “Oliver!” provides the perfect vehicle to do just that. We are looking to cast two teams of 20 children made up of boys and girls and two sets of children for the principal roles of “Oliver” and the artful “Dodger”. In addition, we are also looking to cast “Bet”, Nancy’s best friend, from the junior chorus.”

Any children between the ages of eight and sixteen are invited to attend an open audition at Woodside Methodist Church Hall, Woodside Avenue, Coventry on Sunday 12th October at 2pm. Some previous experience of singing, dancing and performance is useful but not essential. Chairman Andy Watts continues:

“This is a chance for all children to come along and have a go at auditioning for the show. We will get them to sing together and learn a simple routine with our choreographer. We will then assemble our teams of children on the day and also search for suitable actors for the roles of “Oliver”, “The Artful Dodger” and “Bet”.

Children should bring a drink with them and dress comfortably for the auditions. They may be required to stay all afternoon.
