Come and meet those dancing feet…

One of musical theatre’s greatest ever shows takes to the stage this June at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre. After twelve months of planning and preparation, Coventry Musical Theatre Society present 42nd Street, the legendary Broadway Musical on the city theatre stage from Thursday 23rd – Saturday 25th June.

Set in the glitz and glamour of the 1930s, 42nd Street tells the timeless story about Peggy Sawyer an out of work chorus girl, who is desperate to be a star. However, the road to Broadway never runs smoothly and with the leading lady suddenly unable to go on and the entire cast relying on her, can Peggy step in to finally live her dream and save the show?

Six times NODA award winning Coventry Musical Theatre Society are proud to bring this legendary show to the Belgrade Theatre. Following their sell out production of Oliver!, they are again set to delight audiences, this time with the toe tapping favourite.

Director Steve Boden explains why this show is so popular amongst audiences and performers alike:

“42nd Street is the epitome of great musical theatre. It’s provides a fabulous opportunity for grand staging, elaborate and spectacular scenery, beautiful period costumes and some of the greatest tunes written for any musical. After we’d staged “Oliver!” last year, we wanted to find a production that would provide a contrast of style and 42nd Street ticks all the right boxes. It’s also a brilliant production to introduce families and younger children to musical theatre. The story is very simply told but with a degree of charm, sophistication, elegance and some amazing song and dance sequences.”

With a cast of 42 performers and a 12 piece orchestra, this promises to be a spectacular evening. Society chairman Andy Watts adds:

“CMTS is Coventry’s longest established Musical Theatre Society, formed in 1909 and having produced musicals in the city almost every year since then. We’re honoured to be continuing to build on this legacy and thrilled to be given the opportunity to produce our musicals at The Belgrade Theatre every year.”
