Posted on 20 July 2015

Fri 17 – Sun 19 July saw 13 exciting productions take to the stage as part of our July Festival Weekend. The Festival Weekend was the culmination of a 2 week celebration of theatre created by and for young people.

The Belgrade’s Community & Education Company performed 6 new shows alongside productions by youth groups from across the UK, including, Bristol Old Vic’s Propolis Theatre, Gap Arts Project, Gateway Youth Dance Company, EGO performance company, Highly Sprung and Nottingham Playhouse’s Bulwell Youth Theatre.

In addition to this, the Belgrade hosted a series of participatory workshops, allowing audiences to explore the subject matter of some of the shows presented over the weekend.

The July Festival of Theatre by and for Young People is part of Inspiring Curiosity, a wider programme of events marking the 50th anniversary of Theatre in Education which was invented at the Belgrade. The celebrations will continue throughout 2015 with a October Festival of Theatre for Children and Young People, a 2 day conference exploring the relationship between theatre, education and learning and an ongoing campaign to Support Drama in Schools.
