Thank you for your support

As a registered charity, the Belgrade Theatre is reliant upon the kind support of donors, members, funders and partners to ensure that we continue to offer exciting and accessible theatre for the local community, together with our award-winning community and education initiatives.

We are therefore delighted to announce that, with your help, our earned income* is now 72% of our total income (2016-17), compared with 46% in 2008-09. This enables us to continue our aim of becoming less reliant on public funding (from Coventry City Council and Arts Council England) as well as project funding from these and other government sources.

Our earned income includes: box office, catering, conferencing/hires, Belgrade Production Services, and fundraising – such as donations, membership and corporate support.

In 2016-17 our expenditure was made up of:

  • 71% on our charitable objectives;
  • 17% on generating commercial sales;
  • 10% on administration costs; and
  • 2% on fundraising activity.

Pie charts showing our income and expenditure for 2016-17 can be found on the Support Us page of our website here.

We are also pleased to announce that the Belgrade will remain an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and that our proposal for future funding from 2018 – 2022 has been approved. NPOs receive regular funding from the Arts Council and represent some of the best arts practice in the world.

Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England said: “The Belgrade plays a vital part in the local creative economy, producing great theatre that entertains and inspires us, and we’re delighted to be investing in its work over the next four years. We look forward to seeing their work, particularly with young people and emerging artists, continue to thrive.”

A full list of all 831 NPOs across England can be found here.
