Springboard scheme now open for applications

Posted on 27 November 2018

Calling all emerging artists! The Belgrade Theatre is now welcoming applications for a new intake of Springboard companies and individual artists.

Launched in 2015, our Springboard programme was established to help support emerging artists take the next step in developing their careers. Successful applicants will receive tailored support over a three-year period, including advice and guidance from Belgrade staff, marketing support and space to create and rehearse their work.

Previous Springboard companies have gone on to tour their developed pieces, perform at festivals such as the Brighton Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe, and to secure co-productions with other venues. These include Strictly Arts, whose latest show, Freeman, enjoyed a sell-out run and five star reviews at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe; New English Opera, formerly known as HighTime; and Noctium Theatre, whose second production, Hymns for Robots, recently returned to Coventry after visiting the Fringe.

Other projects to have emerged from the scheme include the Belgrade’s annual Mela, produced by Springboard artist Nasreen Akhtar Khan, and Shoot Festival, a regular showcase of new work set up by Springboard artists Jennifer Davis and Paul O’Donnell.

Full benefits of the Springboard programme include:

  • One-to-one meetings
  • Selected performance slots in our season programme and free rehearsal space for Research and Development (1 Show or R&D period per year)
  • Free office space at the Belgrade Theatre
  • Marketing cash support for shows being performed at the Belgrade Theatre
  • Up to 3 training courses paid for by the Belgrade Theatre
  • 1 invitation to a large scale industry event or conference
  • Ongoing advice and guidance from Belgrade staff, covering education, marketing and fundraising (including applying to the Arts Council)

We will be inviting three new companies to join our Springboard programme in Spring 2019, followed by a further two in Autumn 2019. The deadline to apply for the forthcoming Spring season is 14 January 2019.
