Green Office Week 2013: Purchasing

Posted on 16 May 2013

This week (13 – 17 May) is Green Office Week, which aims to help make offices around the world greener by focusing on a different environmental topic every day.

For the second year running we will be supporting the initiative and showing our ongoing commitment to our environmental policy by posting daily updates about the efforts we have made in the last year to make our offices, and the rest of the building, greener.

Thursday’s topic is Purchasing

Following the formation of our Green Team, we’ve made a review of purchasing habits and where possible we have switched to eco-friendly office products. Here’s a summary of some of the latest changes we’ve made to our purchasing habits.

  • Our catering firm, Signatures at the Belgrade, purchase Fair Trade and local food and drinks products for use in the cafe and bars and we make sure that all merchandise that is sold front of house is eco friendly.
  • We use FSC Approved Paper from Mixed Responsible Sources for all print that we produce
  • To avoid purchasing new items we reuse wherever we can; certain stationery items, i.e. box files, folders and lever-arch files are reused and Belgrade Production Services endeavour to reuse sets and costumes and to alter and repair rather than renew.
  • The majority of cleaning products used throughout the building are eco-friendly. For those that aren’t currently eco-friendly, alternative products are being sourced.

For more information on the Belgrade’s environmental policy and the work that has been undertaken to manage natural resources please visit the environmental section of the website.

Check out the Purchasing page on the Green Office Week website for tips and info on how to make your office greener.

Tomorrow, the final day of Green Office Week is all about Innovation, which is key to being green as it is an ongoing process that requires constant attention, thought and action.
