Green Office Week 2013: Day Three, Waste

Posted on 15 May 2013

This week (13 – 17 May) is Green Office Week, which aims to help make offices around the world greener by focusing on a different environmental topic every day.

For the second year running we will be supporting the initiative and showing our ongoing commitment to our environmental policy by posting daily updates about the efforts we have made in the last year to make our offices, and the rest of the building, greener.

Wednesday’s topic is Waste

At the Belgrade we make it a priority to reduce, reuse and recycle. Here’s some of the things we’ve been doing in the last year to reduce waste.

  • We specify exactly how many leaflets and posters we require from touring companies. Any extra that they send is returned at their expense. This is now a contractual obligation.
  • All leaflets, posters and brochures created by the theatre are done so using FSC paper.
  • We recycle paper (having used each sheet twice), printer ink/cartridges, old computers (which we send to charities), props, sets and scenery and are lobbying the council for suitable tins/plastics recycling.
  • Existing staff are encouraged to move to e-payslips to save paper, whilst new staff members automatically receive them via email.

For more information on the Belgrade’s environmental policy and the work that has been undertaken to manage natural resources please visit the environmental section of the website.

Check out the waste page on the Green Office Week website for tips and info on how to make your office greener.

Check back tomorrow to find out how we’ve changed our purchasing habits to make the office and building more eco-friendly.
