Giving Tuesday - Help us give the gift of theatre this Christmas

Posted on 27 November 2018

Today is #GivingTuesday – a global day of giving when people are encouraged to support charities – so we would like to say a huge thank you to those who have already donated to this year’s Making Memories campaign.

Thanks to your generosity, we have already raised an amazing 40% of our Making Memories target and welcomed several local families in need to the Belgrade to watch this year’s Christmas panto, Sleeping Beauty.

For many families, a trip to the theatre is a luxury they simply cannot afford. We’ve received over 190 applications from families facing terrible hardship. So we’d like to ask for your support on #GivingTuesday, to help us to help more children like Daniel…

Daniel lives in Coventry with his father and younger sister. Last year, the family’s lives were turned upside down, when Daniel’s mother lost her short fight against cancer – leaving them emotionally and financially stretched. Daniel is football mad, and loves to kick a ball around the park with his dad, but has found it difficult to cope with his mother’s death and his father’s subsequent depression. Daniel is just 9 years of age, and enjoying Sleeping Beauty at the Belgrade will enable him to spend precious time with his family.

(Daniel’s name has been changed to protect his identity, but his story is real.)

A donation of £15 will help a child like Daniel and £60 will support a local family with tickets to the Belgrade this Christmas. However, we are extremely grateful for whatever level of support you can give. To support our Making Memories campaign, you can donate online via Local Giving here, or by dropping any spare change into our collection buckets when you come to see Sleeping Beauty.

Other ways to support the Belgrade’s work include:

The Belgrade Theatre Trust is a registered charity (number 219163). This means that all the money given, raised or earned is not distributed as profit but kept and reinvested in the work that we do.

We rely on the continued support of our audiences, funders, corporate partners, Members and donors to ensure that we can continue to develop our artistic and educational work and remain central to the communities that we serve.
