From Buddy to Bollywood - an action-packed season at the Belgrade

With the sun shining and summer now on the horizon, here at the Belgrade, we’re looking ahead to an action-packed Autumn/Winter Season, with a raft of exciting new shows announced this week for 2019-20.

Highlights of the forthcoming season include a new adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes from The Classic Thriller Theatre Company, starring husband and wife Juliet Mills ( Wild at Heart, Passions ) and Maxwell Caulfield ( Grease 2, Dynasty ) from 24-28 Sep. Thriller fans can also look forward to Robin Hawdon’s Revenge (13-15 Feb), a gripping murder mystery directed by Louise Jameson, best known for her acting roles in EastEnders, Doctor Who, Bergerac and Tenko.

Following the roaring success of their feelgood hit Bring on the Bollywood in 2016 and 2017, Phizzical Productions return with a brand new Bollywood musical Stardust. Running from 14-21 September, this vibrant extravaganza tells the explosive story of singing sensation Amor and her music producer husband Cyrus.

Meanwhile, more familiar musical titles include Bill Kenwright’s new production of the 1977 John Travolta classic, Saturday Night Fever (17-21 Sep), followed by a new tour of the international hit Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story (7-9 Nov).

The Gruffalo

For families, Tall Stories bring their acclaimed staging of The Gruffalo to Coventry 11 and 12 November. Based on the bestselling picture book by former children’s laureate Julia Donaldson.

As ever, there’ll be plenty of live music to enjoy, including the return of the trailblazing Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on Wed 13 Nov, who are back to celebrate their 25th anniversary with Tribe, a brand new show of stamina, skill and red hot rhythms to stir your soul.

West End musical lovers can again relive the magic of their favourite theatrical numbers when Masters of the House returns on Wed 15 Jan, packed with instantly recognisable songs like Defying Gravity, Oh What A Circus and Suddenly Seymour.

Following the sell-out success of his Belgrade debut, Irish singer and accordion player Nathan Carter is also back with his 2019 Born for the Road tour.

There’ll also be tons of opportunities to take in performances from some of the country’s leading tribute artists, with familiar favourites including ABBA Mania, Legend – The Music of Bob Marley, The Magic of Motown, Totally Tina, The Best of Queen, The Little Mix Experience, The Take That Experience, The Simon and Garfunkel Story, Bye Bye Baby – Celebrating Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and Pop-Up Bowie.

New to the Belgrade will be Carole – The Music of Carole King, The Sound of Springsteen and Oye Santana, who head to Coventry as part of their 50th Anniversary Woodstock Tour.

These new shows join an already exciting programme, which includes Shane Richie’s previously announced star turn in The Entertainer (15-19 Oct), a Horrible Histories double-bill with Awful Egyptians and Terrible Tudors (23-26 Oct); and this year’s Christmas pantomime, Puss in Boots (23 Nov-11 Jan), as well as the return of the ever-popular Russian State Ballet with The Nutcracker, Don Quixote and Swan Lake (14-16 Nov).

Additional music shows for the season include Steve Steinman’s Anything for Love – The Meatloaf Story, Northern Soul Live, The King is Back – Ben Portsmouth is Elvis and Complete Madness.

Tickets for Stardust and all previously announced productions are available to book now. Additional shows are now open for Members bookings, with general release on Wed 3 April.
