Did you know…we run an Outreach Youth Theatre group?

Posted on 10 May 2013

The Belgrade Theatre has a strong history of Youth Theatre, with the first groups being set up by the Theatre in Education Company as part of their service for young people in the 1960s.

We currently run an Outreach Youth Theatre group based in Canley alongside our 4 in-house groups. The Outreach Youth Theatre group meet regularly to develop skills in theatre techniques, including acting, singing, dancing, writing and directing.

Through participation in arts activity, the young people involved also develop skills that are transferable to real-life contexts, building confident, articulate young citizens with an active interest in the world around them.

The workshops and productions offered to all participants of the Community & Education Company cost the Belgrade over £300,000 a year, which equates to a cost of around £30 per participant per workshop. We work hard to keep workshops free of charge to ensure open access. However, as a registered charity, we do rely on the support of donors to ensure that we can continue to do so.

The Belgrade Theatre Trust (Coventry) Ltd is a registered charity (No 219163), so all of the money raised and earned by the theatre is reinvested in the services it provides to the local community. Amongst other things, these services include, creating and staging high quality productions on the Main Stage and in B2, working with young people and local communities via the Community & Education Company and developing the careers of young people who want to work in the arts.
