Designing Propaganda Swing - From Studio To Stage with Libby Watson

Posted on 10 July 2014

With the countdown to the world premiere of Peter Arnott’s gripping WWII drama in full swing, we caught up with Designer Libby Watson for an exclusive preview of the Propaganda Swing model box set ahead of its journey to our workshops in Red Lane.

In this video, Libby reveals more about the vision behind her stunning radio-studio set design for Propaganda Swing, her research process and the challenges of bringing the unique landscapes of the 1930s Berlin jazz-scene to life on stage!

Propaganda Swing throws a spotlight on the gripping true story of ‘Charly and his Orchestra’. Featuring a fantastic swing band live on stage, this enthralling show reveals the characters behind the story of how some of the greatest German jazz musicians of the day entered into a Faustian pact with the Fascists – they could keep playing their beloved music at the price of seeing it corrupted for evil.

Propaganda Swing makes its world premiere at the Belgrade Theatre from Sat 13 Sept – Sat 26 Sept. For tickets, call the Box Office on 024 7655 3055 or visit
