Dementia Awareness Week at the Belgrade

Posted on 13 May 2016

The Belgrade has events coming up for Dementia Awareness week, which lands between the 15th May and 21st May 2016. The Belgrade is holding several events to change perceptions about dementia, and support those with dementia and their carers.

Singing for the Brain
Monday 16 May, 11am

Singing for the Brain is a service provided by Alzheimer’s Society which uses singing to bring people together in a friendly and stimulating social environment.
Singing is not only an enjoyable activity, it can also provide a way for people with dementia, along with their carers, to express themselves and socialise with others in a fun and supportive group.

Hidden in the fun are activities which build on the well-known preserved memory for song and music in the brain. Even when many memories are hard to retrieve, music is especially easy to recall.

Dementia Friends Information Sessions
Mon 16 May, 2pm and 5pm

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition.

Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends programme to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.
