Cast Announced for La Strada

We are delighted to be presenting La Strada in conjunction with Kenny Wax Ltd, Cambridge Arts Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. La Strada is a new musical adaptation inspired by Fedrico Fellini’s Oscar winning masterpiece.

Moving between the dazzling lights of the circus and the bare landscapes of rural Italy, this production is set to be a treat. This new musical adaptation is directed by Olivier Award nominee Sally Cookson (Jane Eyre and Peter Pan, National Theatre, Hetty Feather, West End) who is described as “one of theatre’s most imaginative and distinctive directors” and boasts a beautiful new score by Benji Bower, with songs performed by an international cast of actor musicians.

Alongside Cookson and Bower, we are thrilled to announce the rest of the fantastic creative team. It comprises of Katie Sykes, set and costume designer. Sykes’ recent design credentials include designing both set and costume for The Globe/ Liverpool everyman’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona and costume for The National Theatre’s Peter Pan amongst others. LX Designer Aideen Malone boasts an impressive record working on many fantastic shows and collaborations including English Touring Opera and Bush Theatre. Sound Designer Mike Beer has worked on many exciting projects including Sleeping Beauty at Bristol Old Vic. We are delighted to announce we have an Aerial Director, Gwen Hales and Movement Director, Cameron Carver on board, overseeing and directing the physical elements of the performance.

A large, talented cast will be taking our Main Stage 13 – 18 Feb and we can’t wait to welcome them to our theatre! Gelsomina is played by Audrey Brisson who has recently appeared as Dea in The Grinning Man at Bristol Old Vic and has also recently starred as Bella Chagall in The Flying Lovers of Vitedsk, directed by Emma Rice. Zampano will be played by Stuart Goodwin who has just finished performing at Bristol Old Vic’s Sleeping Beauty, playing the Wicked Fairy. Stuart Goodwin has worked on many exciting shows including the RSC’s Russian in the Woods playing Reg Dilke. Il Matto, The Fool, will be played by Bart Soroczynski whose credits include Tell Them That I am Young and Beautiful with Kathryn Hunter directed by Marcello Magni (Arcola); played Ferdinand and Trinculo in The Tempest directed by Irina Brook (Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Paris/world tour. Performed in French); Benvenuto Cellini directed by Terry Gilliam (English National Opera); Missing by Gecko Theater Company (The Place, London/UK Tour, directed by Amit Lahav) and Nomade, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca (Cirque Eloize-Canada/worldtour). Bart also appeared in the films: Son Of A Fool/The Fool and The Princesses, directed by Michael Finger (Switzerland); Magique, directed by Philippe Muyl (Canada-France) and The Three Sisters (Company Arts Theatre directed by Craig Duchar with music by Nigel Kennedy, London).

We have a dazzling ensemble which includes: Matt Costain who played Matron Bottomly/Jem in Hetty Feather (Duke of Yorks Theatre & National No.1); Fabrizio Matteini who played Mr Henry in Eurydice (Teatro della Tosse, Genoa, Emanuele Conte); Sofie Lyback who played The Actress in La Ronde (Stephen Unwin); Teowa Vuong wo played Sen in The Race (Gecko Physical Theatre Battersea Arts Centre, Al/Amit) and Niv Petel who played Rameses and Minaret singer in Notmoses (The Arts Theatre, London, Gary Sinyor). The Ensemble onstage cover includes: Niccolo Curradi who played Dave/Prisoner of War/Cellist in Poppies – A New Musical ( Music Box Theatre, Alanna Stone) and Tatiana Santini who played Snow-White in 2014 in Snow-White & the Seven Dwarves Tour (C’est Pour De Rire, Guy Grimberg). We have a trio of amazing musicians on board including Luke Potter Tee Jay Holmes and Tim Dalling.
