Belgrade Theatre launches Young Critics scheme

Posted on 25 July 2018

Calling young people with a passion for live theatre!

Are you a budding reporter, curious blogger or podcast fanatic? Would you like to make videos or write reviews of the exciting theatre happening in your city?
This year, the Belgrade Theatre is launching a brand new Young Critics scheme, offering young people aged 16-23 the chance to gain an invaluable insight into the world of arts journalism and communications.

As part of the package, you’ll get to join us for the press nights of our home-produced shows, experiencing the buzz of a theatrical premiere alongside professional writers and reviewers. You’ll get the opportunity to add your own voice and opinions to conversations around our shows, and have your content shared across the Belgrade’s social media channels, reaching over 30,000 followers on Twitter, and over 20,000 on Facebook.

You’ll also get to take a look behind the scenes of some of our productions, enjoying exclusive access to the people and processes involved in making great theatre happen, conducting interviews, attending launch events and more.

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals aged 16-23 who are passionate about the arts. Successful applicants will have a nose for great stories and new experiences, and a drive to share those with other people. You’ll be confident in forming your own opinions and presenting them to other people, and you’ll need to demonstrate flair and creativity in your chosen medium – but how you share your ideas is entirely up to you!

You don’t need to be an expert in writing or theatre – we’re keen to see a wide range of talent and responses, so whether you’re keen to gather voxpops or put together Instagram stories, we want to hear from you!

You will, however, need to show us you’re committed to the project. Whilst we recognise that not everyone will be available for every event, there are a few key dates you’ll need to keep free (see below for details), and we hope you’ll seize as many additional opportunities to get involved as possible.

The scheme will run from September 2018 until July 2019.

How to apply

If this sounds like the sort of thing you’d love to do, please fill out the form on the right-hand side of this page, and email your responses to along with some examples of your work, no later than Monday 10 September.
