A Spotlight on A Haunting

Posted on 11 September 2017

As the B2 10th anniversary celebrations get well under way we took five minutes out to catch up with Coventry based director, Jennifer Davis. Jennifer will be bringing her ‘nail-biting’ thriller A Haunting for three performances to the studio this October.

Tell us about yourself Jen
Well, I grew up in Bulkington but was schooled in Coventry and have always thought of the city as my home. Since graduating from university I’ve been freelancing as a theatre director and have trained on the Birmingham REP’s Foundry programme and worked as a Trainee Resident Director at the King’s Head Theatre in London. I’m also very proud to be one of the Belgrade’s Spring Board Companies with an emerging arts platform I co-founded – Shoot Festival.

What’s Forethought Theatre?
Forethought is my theatre company. We champion new writers as we believe they are the lifeblood of British theatre. We combine fiercely original writing with intricate staging that cuts straight to the action.

Why A Haunting?
I first read A Haunting about two years ago. I was sitting in the King’s Head Theatre office and the Artistic Director handed me a script with the words ‘You have GOT to read this!’ Well, you don’t ignore advice like that and boy did that script pack a punch! I was hooked, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I met with the writer, Nathan Lucky Wood, and the rest is history….

In the past two years we’ve performed twice at the King’s Head Theatre and had a run at one of the UK’s most prestigious art festivals: VAULT Festival.

A Haunting is an uncomfortably honest play which takes a chilling look at the darkest corners of the internet. It’s dark, gripping, relevant and there’s some light relief where you least expect it!

What are you most looking forward to?
Coming home! I’m so excited to share my work with local audiences and to work with the Belgrade. It’s a venue I have admired and respected for such a long time and I am honoured that they are programming this play.

I’m also looking forward to showing the cast and creative team around my home town and to give them a taste of the incredible art scene we have in this city.

Treat yourself to a thrill this Autumn and book for A Haunting, on Wednesday 4th October at 8pm and Thursday 5th October at 2.30pm and 8pm.
