A record-breaking year for Making Memories

Posted on 15 January 2020

A visit to the theatre is a magical experience and often a treasured memory. Unfortunately, due to financial hardship or illness, many families across Coventry and Warwickshire are not able to make these memories.

Following on from a fantastic Making Memories campaign in 2018, we set an ambitious target to raise £9,000 in 2019-20, with the goal of helping 600 people to access theatre at the Belgrade with tickets to our pantomime, Puss in Boots.

Once again, we partnered with Coventry Foodbank to ensure that those most in need would benefit from the campaign, and as usual, we were overwhelmed by your generosity.

Thanks to the kind support of audiences, corporate supporters, staff and members, we are delighted to announce that our 2019-20 Making Memories campaign raised an record-breaking £12,755!

Thanks to your help, we’ve smashed our initial target, enabling us to offer an incredible 775 Puss in Boots tickets to 183 local families, who are facing difficult circumstances.

Here is some of the feedback we have received this year from families who benefitted from Making Memories:

“The pantomime was so much fun for us all, I’m so glad we went, I was planning on taking them this year but then our nightmare came along with the darkness. It was truly lovely for us and to see my 3 kids smile again. Magical. Thank you again.”

“Thank you so much I’m truly grateful and I’m not sure what to say this is truly a wonderful gift for us. Thank you so much for this.”

“Just want to say a big thank you for last night’s early xmas gift, me and my kids loved it so thank you again.”

Don’t forget that just because the Christmas decorations have come down, doesn’t mean that Making Memories is over! While most of the money helps people to see our panto at Christmas, there are also many other opportunities for families to engage with theatre throughout the year, and with your help, we can do our best to ensure that no child need miss out.

If you’d like to support our Making Memories campaign, you can donate to us online. Our next Christmas pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, is already open for bookings, and you can also add a donation to Making Memories to your basket when you book your tickets.

A huge thank you to Barclays, Gallagher Insurance, Coventry Foodbank, Limelight Merchandise, our friends at the Town Wall Tavern, and our Puss in Boots Deputy Stage Manager Graham Baird, for their fundraising efforts this year.

We would also like to thank our corporate supporters 3DIFS, Dains, Deeley Group, CityFibre, Protel Fieldwork and to Diamond level Members William and Hitash for their generosity, as well as to the cast, crew, creative team and front of house staff for their support over the pantomime season.

The Belgrade Theatre Trust (Coventry) Ltd is a registered charity (No 219163), which means that all of the money raised and earned by the theatre is reinvested in the services it provides to the local community. To find out more about why we are a charity, visit our Support Us page.
