The Circus Is Coming - Hansel and Gretel Costume Designs

Posted on 27 April 2015

Hansel and Gretel live on the outskirts of society, hungry and poor. Their mother sends them to forage for food on the mean city streets. News soon arrives that the circus has come to town, led by a very sinister Ringmaster, renowned for luring children away from their homes with the intoxicating smell of frying hot dogs…

Sung in a new English translation produced with Kit Hesketh Harvey (Kit and the Widow, BBC Comedy Proms), this brand new production brings Englebert Humperdinck’s stunning music to life as you have never seen or heard before.

The production also features a chorus of children from 10 schools across Coventry, who have been given their very first taste of opera thanks to HighTime. Hansel and Gretel is a magical story and a musical masterpiece, and this darkly comic production is sure to inspire both young and old alike.

With rehearsals underway from next week, it won’t be long until the circus comes to town. In the mean time, take a look at these original costume designs from the show courtesy of our friends at HighTime.

Hansel and Gretel runs in B2 from Thurs 7 – Sat 9 May. Tickets are priced from £13.75 – £24.75. To book, call our friendly Box Office on 024 7655 3055 or visit where tickets are cheaper.
