A Few of our Favourite Things...

Posted on 15 January 2018

With Monday 15 January marking Blue Monday, we’re looking to lighten up the dark, gloomy days by spreading some seasonal cheer ahead of the arrival of Bill Kenwright’s The Sound of Music on our Main Stage from 6-10 February. As the silver-white winter melts into Spring, why not join us in sharing a few of your favourite things?

Inspired by Maria von Trapp’s tried and tested method of chasing the blues away, we’re asking people to get creative and take to social media to tell us what it is that makes them happy. Whether it’s getting stuck into a good book or singing at the top of your voice, going out for a run or spending time with family and friends, we want to hear about it!

You might want to add your own lyrics in a Facebook post, or you might prefer to share a picture, gif or video on Instagram. With the buzz around Coventry being awarded City of Culture in 2021, you might want to shout about what you love about the city. However you get involved, be sure to share any posts publicly using #BelgradeFaves so we can find them!

To help you get started, we’ve added a couple of verses to the iconic song “My Favourite Things” telling you what we love about the theatre.

Heavy stage curtains and orchestras tuning
Dressing room bustle and openings looming
The hush of excitement the lights dimming brings
These are a few of our favourite things.

New sets to transform our two theatre spaces
Stories that take us to far away places
The sound all around you when everyone sings
These are a few of our favourite things.

Bringing the timeless story and unforgettable music from one of the world’s most cherished family musicals to the Belgrade Theatre, Bill Kenwright’s production of The Sound of Music retells story of the world-famous Trapp Family Singers, from their romantic beginnings to their thrilling escape from Austria at the start of World War II.

Starring in the show as Maria will be The Voice finalist Lucy O’Byrne, who returns to the role following rave reviews in her previous stint, The Scotsman describing her as “perhaps the best Maria since Julie Andrews”.

Joining her as Captain Georg von Trapp will be former EastEnders actor and West End star Neil McDermott, who previously played the role of Rolfe in The Sound of Music’s London Palladium run.

The Sound of Music comes to the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 February 2018.
